Setting up your mixing area and workspace properly before you get started can help you reduce the time and mess associated with producing your DIY e-liquids.
You can get started in 3 easy steps.
The first thing you'll want to do is make sure that your DIY e-juice mixing area is clean, flat, and well-lit. For most DIY mixers, a small table will provide enough space. This means clearing away any clutter and debris, wiping the area with your usual household cleaner, and turning on all lights in the area. You might even want to put an extra lamp on the table to give you some extra light.
It's also a good idea to keep paper towels and a household cleaner on hand to deal with any spills.
Once your DIY e-liquid workspace has been cleaned, you'll want to set up your equipment. You can design the exact layout of your workspace however you want, but we’ve found most mixers prefer to make sure everything is within easy reach.
You'll need to keep the following items on hand:
- Graduated syringes for measuring
- Blunt tips for adding flavor to your e-liquid
- Bottles for mixing and storing e-liquid
- Scale (if mixing by weight)
Before you start mixing your DIY e-liquid, make sure you're wearing gloves, a long-sleeved shirt, full-length pants, and closed-toed shoes. This will help you mix your e-liquid ingredients safely and prevent product adulteration.
You should have the following DIY e-juice ingredients on your mixing table:
- An unflavored nicotine base
- A propylene glycol/vegetable glycerin solution
- Flavor concentrates
Many DIY mixers like to store their e-liquid mixing supplies and equipment in shelving units near their mixing areas, but this isn't necessary. Any storage area will do, as long as it’s cool and dark. For more information, see our guides on storing e-liquid safely and storing nicotine bases.
If this is your first time mixing DIY e-juice, see our guides to DIY workflow, adding nicotine to your e-liquid, and adding flavor to your e-liquid.
CAUTION: Nicotine products should not be ingested directly, and skin contact with nicotine bases can be hazardous. Mixing should be done away from children and pets. Always use personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling nicotine. Check out our DIY e-liquid mixing safety guide for additional safety notes.
