Media hype about the FDA announcement regarding TSNA’s found in ecigs.

It is not looking good for the ecig community right now.  The FDA releases a statement about a limited study about a few carcinogens found the the e-juice.  Of course the media jumps on it and goes into the spin zone.  Making it sound even worse than a tobacco cigarette.  Get real.  Tobacco has over 4000 chemicals, numerous carcinogens at high levels, and is proven to kill and debilitate.  While ecigs have 2 or so carcinogens in such minute amounts that it is comparable to nicotine gum and the patch.  Why don’t they discuss all of the facts?  Why is it only bad news they like to spread?  It makes sense, the media usually only broadcasts bad news.  This is just what they do.  Let’s face it, for the ecig to become commonplace, there is a lot of work to be done.

Firstly, the government wants a peice of the pie.  Currently the ecig is not a source of tax revenue like tobacco.  Furthermore, Phillip Morris has too much invested to just allow this to go on without a fight.  And guess what, they have the resources to do just about anything.  I am skepticle on the whole matter.

This whole debacle makes no sense at all.  ecigs are not proven to be safe, but neither is alcohol.  We are on delicate ground with this subject and it will be interesting to see what the future is like when it comes to the ecig.  We have numerous statements from physicians at universities who have basically said it may not be 100% safe, but it is safer than tobacco.

Time will tell.
