It seemed really cool when I was 16 to skip school and hangout at the bowling alley all day. Of course back then you could still smoke indoors at places like bowling alleys and bars. I started smoking cigarettes my Sophomore year in high school. Really early but I actually didn’t do drugs, or drink, or get in trouble. Smoking was the only bad thing I did and it would turn out to be one of the worst decisions of my life. I also feel bad because a few of my friends started smoking back then due to being around me and having easy access to cigarettes. A dumb 16yr old making dumb decisions.

I smoked consistently for the last 11 years basically. Now I’m 27 and this year was the first time in my life I really regretted being a smoker. My wife who doesn’t smoke has put up with my smoking for years. She never forced me to quit and never smoked around her really. This year for some reason I decided it was time to quit. Getting older does funny things to a person. I never figured out exactly how I was going to quit, I just knew I wanted to quit.

About a month ago a friend of mine and I were having a conversation outside work and he said, “Hey I ordered one of the electronic cigarettes from the internet.”

“A What? Like those things at the mall?” I asked.

“Yeah, kind of like that but a real starter kit.”

“Well, let me know how that goes when you get it cause I might be interested if it helps you cut down on regular cigs.”

He got his kit a few days later and called me. He was insanely happy with the product he got so I ordered the same kit. Three days after that I got my kit and I haven’t had a single tobacco cigarette since then. I quit smoking the moment I opened my starter kit box.

Electronic cigarettes have been a life saver for me. I just hope my lung function and overall health bounce back well. I read stories about people who have smoked for 40 years and I’m so glad that isn’t going to be me. 11 years isn’t a short run by any means with cigarettes but it sure beats an entire lifetime of couching and smelling terrible, not to mention the ridiculous cost of traditional cigarettes. Between the health benefits, cost savings, and overall enjoyability of e-cigs I couldn’t be any happier with my experience so far. I hope to be a vaper for a long time…
